Join us for ‘Walk the Wall’ - 2nd November
Every year the Amos Trust invites thousands of runners worldwide to join with 10,000 Palestinian runners who run the Palestine marathon in Bethlehem.
2nd November marks the 107th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, when the UK government decided to support the formation of a Jewish state in the historic land of Palestine, regardless of the wishes of the Palestinians who lived there. Palestinians see this as the start of over a century of dispossession.
So, what better weekend is there to Run The Wall for Palestine? Some of us have signed up to the Amos Trust. Come and join us as we symbolically walk to the Sea Wall here in Southport.
We will...
Walk to The Wall
As an act of solidarity
Walk to The Wall
As a call for an end to Palestinian dispossession
Walk to The Wall
To demand an end to Israel’s war on Gaza
Walk to The Wall
To urge the UK Government to recognise the Palestinian state
Our usual demonstration will take place (Corner of Eastbank St and Lord St, near the florist) beginning at 12pm on Saturday 2nd November. At 12.15pm those walking to the wall will leave the demonstration, returning about 12.45pm for the concluding words. Those not wishing to walk to the wall will stay in place.
If walking please wear Palestinian colours – red, black, green, white, keffiyahs etc. We will walk in silence and will take a few minutes at the sea wall to reflect on the ongoing tragedy in Palestine.
Please sign up here.
If you wish to know more about the Balfour Declaration come to a meeting at Southport Community Centre on Thursday 7th November, 7.30pm, when Peter Reilly will be delivering a presentation on its history and consequences.
