Jenin Camp Today
Written by Karen Whyte
The Israeli army’s assault on Jenin Refugee Camp in the West Bank has resulted in death and devastation. The so-called Operation Iron Wall has led to the forcible displacement of thousands of residents, destruction and demolition.
I stayed in Jenin Camp with Mona and her family, volunteering at the Al Tafawk Center for children. Both their home and the center are now in ruins. They are staying in the village of Burqin.
Today I received a message from my friend Mona. It reads…
“As I couldn’t enter the camp today after 5 hours waiting with people! I received this video from one of the journalists who was able to enter the camp. My heart can’t take it!”
These are the faces of children of the camp whose Day Center and homes have been destroyed. How can the world stand by and let this happen?
