‘Christians for Palestine’ in Liverpool

Some words from one of the regular attendees of Southport’s peaceful demonstrations which call for a ceasefire in Gaza and an end to the military occupation of Palestine by Israel...

“On Saturday 21st September, I joined the ‘Christians for Palestine’ contingent at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, we prayed together led by Pax Christi’s Naomi, then joined the rest of the marchers assembling in front of St George’s Hall ready to march to the Pier Head on the banks of the River Mersey, next to the venue for the upcoming Labour Party Conference.

It was the day before the start of the Conference in Liverpool, and the march was to send a clear message to Party Leader Starmer and the conference delegates, that we citizens assembled from all parts of the country, demanded that our government must press Israel for an immediate and unconditional Ceasefire, and a permanent halt to the starvation and mass slaughter by relentless day and night bombing of the defenceless Palestinian men, women and children imprisoned inside Gaza, as required by the International Court of Justice. All arms supplies to Israel must stop, and the Occupation must end in accordance with International Law. Kier Starmer has assured Israel of his unconditional support, and stated that Israel has the right to withhold food, water and electricity from the imprisoned civilian population of Gaza. The words ‘Genocide’ and ‘Apartheid’ were banned from the Labour Conference.

Since our march in Liverpool a week ago, Israel has mounted a massive attack on Lebanon, including the indiscriminate use of 2000lb bunker-buster bombs supplied by the United States. Thousands of Lebanese civilians have been killed or injured, and over one million have fled their homes, 100,000 crossing the border into Syria to escape the Israelis. At the Liverpool march three days ago, both Palestinian and Lebanese flags were flown.”
