Boycott Barclays 16th November

Only two weeks ago we were celebrating the fact that Barclays had sold its shareholdings in Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest weapons company!

But Barclays gave no assurance that it wouldn’t re-invest, and yesterday, Barclays latest quarterly filing shows that the bank once again holds shares in Elbit Systems. While this investment is substantially smaller than its previous level of investment, it indicates the bank has made no decision to divest. In addition, Barclays continues to provide billions worth of financing to a range of other companies arming Israel.

We must maintain the pressure.

The numbers of dead, injured, displaced in Gaza, The West Bank and Lebanon just are too large for me to comprehend – 10s of thousands. We don’t have accurate figures, but over 45,000 in Gaza alone. And behind each one of those numbers is a child, a woman, a man. A son or daughter, a sister or brother, a mother, a father. Uncles, aunties, teachers, doctors, nurses, journalists, photographers, mechanics, shopkeepers, aid workers – the list goes on and on.

Shame on you Barclays. Your profits are covered in Palestinian blood.
